REVIEW: The Rumbullion at The Roundhouse

I’ve driven past the little sign pointing to The Roundhouse countless times, without ever knowing the magic that was just a few meters away. Obviously I’d heard of the fine dining restaurant, but I had no idea of the beautiful lawns and relaxed outdoor restaurant surrounding it…

Known as “Cape Town’s best kept secret”, The Roundhouse was built in 1786 in the forests of Camps Bay and is an old hunting lodge with a popular fine dining restaurant and a more relaxed, outdoor restaurant, known as The Rumbullion
The word “rumbullion” is an old-world English term meaning “a riotous good time” and I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to describe the experience of these sprawling lawns with their incredible view.

We were invited to sample the restaurant’s tapas-style menu and enjoy the sunset after work. The rolling green lawns and white umbrellas make you feel sophisticated yet relaxed and the quaint picnic setting is perfect rustic luxury set in the shadow of Table Mountain.

Each table comes with a picnic basket of cutlery and tapas can be ordered off the tick-box menu. We ordered a margarita pizza with smoked buffalo mozzarella, truffle cream cheese (holy hell this was amazing!), roasted onion dip, olive tapenade, spicy olives and freshly-baked ciabatta. They have more than 20 craft beers on the menu to choose from and a stunning wine list.

This is the perfect spot for after-work drinks or a celebratory light meal with friends. The food is truly delicious and the service is incredible. You can pack your little jars of tapas in your picnic basket and head down the lawns to a more secluded spot if you’re on a romantic date, or book a table for a chilled Sunday with friends.

The Roundhouse is running a competition for March and April

where you could win one of 10 lunches

I will definitely be going back before the end of summer. Check out The Roundhouse on their website, follow them on Twitter and Instagram and like them on Facebook.
