What every mother wants for Mother’s Day? To be seen and to see herself as a mother.

Make it a tradition to tell her every year what makes her, specifically, the Best Mom in The World.

The special treats she makes after everyone else has gone to bed, just because the kids love them. The time she bullied your son’s bully right back. The patience she shows in the face of a screaming toddler in the middle of parking lot. The time you caught her holding your daughter’s hand in their sleep.

The things that she does, for no reason other than the fact that she loves them.

That’s what she wants for Mother’s Day. And it’s free.

I’ve received so many questions about Cow’s Mi

I’ve received so many questions about Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy in my DM’s that I thought I’d put my answers up here for anyone to reference and share if this is something they suspect their baby may be struggling with.

I’m quite obviously not a medical professional and this is not an exhaustive guide, but I have some personal experience that I am sharing in the hopes that it can help someone who is dealing with the confusion and frustration around dealing with CMPA. (It’s very long. Continued in the comments)

WHAT IS CMPA?
An abnormal response by the body’s immune system to a protein found in cow’s milk, which causes injury to the stomach and intestines.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
They range from excessive gas and cramping to skin rashes to very frequent dirty nappies (often foamy and mucusy) to blood in the baby’s stool. The bottom line is that ANY severe discomfort or reaction in your baby deserves to be investigated and if you are not comfortable with the answer “they will grow out of it”, you can keep looking until you find a solution.

WHAT WERE YOUR SYMPTOMS?
My baby had a very hard time with cramping, gas (but no reflux), excessively frequent nappies, foamy nappies, mucus in his nappies and blood in his nappies that first presented as specks and streaks and escalated to shocking, almost exclusively bloody nappies. He did not present any skin rashes, skin tags or hives.

This is my experience. CMPA can be confusing, scary and lonely - especially when you are constantly told it’s not that serious, that your baby will outgrow it and that their symptoms are “normal”. It’s not something that you can test for, and it’s not something that has 1 easy remedy. So if you’re going through it, I’m sending you love! Life is less hectic than I thought it would be with two babies, mostly because I kept my expectations pretty much below zero and because my husband has come to the party in a HUGE way and fully embraced doing this together AND ALSO WE HAVE AN AMAZING NANNY WHO I WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST WITHOUT.

(Except for the week where we spent 4 days in hospital with a sick toddler and a newborn to care for🤯. That week was pretty intense)

August has still never slept through a night in his entire life, but his cuteness levels are absolutely stratospheric so that makes up for a lot of missed sleep.

Sully has been sleeping for 6 hour stretches overnight, which I’m hoping will last because it genuinely feels like a tropical holiday on the nights when I’m exclusively on Sully duty while Keenan takes Aug 🌺🍹🌴

August likes: Giving kisses. Sooo many kisses. Making us laugh. Taking every book off the bookshelf and making us read one single page before abruptly slamming it shut. FOOD! He finally, FINALLY likes food. Putting his shoes on. Helping with tasks around the house - especially putting clothes in the laundry basket and methodically handing me every item on my bedside table. Kicking a ball of any description. A little boy on our compound called Lennon, who he follows around shouting “Lenno!”

August does not like: Having his nappy changed, despite this happening multiple times every single day of his short life. Papaya, which I discovered this week when I gave him a piece to taste that made him gag so hard he almost fell off the kitchen counter. Sleeping for any longer than 3 hours at a time.

He is, without a doubt, my favourite person on this planet and also all other planets.

Why? Because I am jealous. I wish I had the time to film myself pretending to wake up and then do a 5am workout and then open my curtains and then WAKE UP MY BABY but I don’t because I jolt awake with a heart racing urgency to the clapping hands of my baby at 6am and then I try to keep him alive until his nanny arrives and then I try to keep myself alive until bed time, so I will pass, thank you anyway

Summer 2023/2024 We weren’t planning on going a

Summer 2023/2024

We weren’t planning on going away at all this summer, but after a Covid Christmas we felt like we needed to get away and see some sun and swim in some salt water. I’m so grateful we did. A week on the coast was exactly what we needed to wash away 2023 and welcome 2024. Now it’s time to rest and nest before this baby comes in a few weeks.
