There are so many things to love about this time of year. The weather, the hundreds of get-togethers with friends, the popping of bubbly bottles, the excuse to shop until your credit card bursts into flames. I’m really feeling the festive spirit this year, and I think it’s due to the fact that we put our tree up on the 25th of November and have been blasting Michael Bublé’s Christmas album on repeat.
Instead of spending hours in the mall this season, I encourage you to shop online. There are so many amazing things to choose from, locally produced and designed and delivered to your door. So much better for your festive spirit. I once heard that if you don’t know what to buy someone, get them something you would get for yourself. So here’s my list of want-for-myself-but-would-buy-for-someone-else items.
For the head
This hat from Jane Sews is such a beauty. If you love someone, help them look younger for longer by keeping their beautiful face protected from the sun.
For the face
Skoon Skincare uses no nasty ingredients, so it’s safe for pretty much anyone, even people with really sensitive skin. This moisturiser contains Organic Rooibos, Honeybush and Marula Oil. Enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide 3 and Pomegranate Sterols.
For the home
My friend Lauren Fowler does beautiful prints that make such great gifts. This one says “It’s not the home I love but the life that is lived there”.
For the soul
This locally made gin not only looks beautiful but tastes amazing. Infused with rose water, it makes some seriously good cocktails. Did I mention that it’s beautiful? When it comes to drinks like gin, it could be as simple as doing a quick google search into Delicious Gin, for example, in the hopes of finding different options that can help create cocktails for the summer. Not everyone likes strong flavors, so something like gin infused with rose water or other flavoured gin with a lighter taste would be perfect.
For the festivities
This MCC is just what you need to pop on Christmas Day (or New Year’s eve, if you can keep your hands off it for that long). This Chardonnay Pinot Noir blend is elegant and delicious and beautifully packaged in all black.
For the feet
Ever heard anyone say “oh no thanks, I don’t need any more cute shoes, not for me thanks”? I didn’t think so! They adorable espadrilles are made right here in Cape Town and come in a huge variety of colours and prints. Must-have, for sure.
For the mornings after the nights before
Roasted in Woodstock, a hamper of Tribe coffee is a pretty awesome gift. It will also be particularly great to have on hand during the festive season.
Order here (PS. If you use the voucher code TOAM-TRIBE-CCB you’ll get a special little festive discount of 15% of your order)
For the feel-good factor
Wearing beautiful undies can totally change the way you feel about your outfit and your body. It’s like a special secret that gives your day a little boost. Nette Rose intimates are made in Cape Town and are so pretty, I wish I was wearing them every day.
For the naps
Sleeping late, napping… it’s what the holidays are all about. Luxury PJ’s are such a treat and something you have can never have too many pairs of. Anna-Louise sleepwear is unspeakably soft and luxe and makes for a really great gift.
Don’t leave your shopping too late – most local online stores close over season, so hurry and get it all done before the 15th of December. I hope my local guide has given you some inspiration. And don’t forget, if you don’t know what to buy, buy something you’d like to receive.
