Starting off with a disclaimer. I think that maybe the “DIY “part of the title of this post is slightly misleading. To be completely transparent, the post title should read, “Do it yourself with some help from a couple of talented tradesmen and Builders Warehouse”.
This Freedom Day, Keenan I decided to build the wooden room divider screens we always had planned for our studio apartment. I’ve been shopping around since we moved in, but I couldn’t find anything that fitted my exact specifications; I wanted a bookshelf that could act as a room divider, open both sides to allow light through, about 2,5m x 2m.
Builders Warehouse kindly offered us the opportunity to work with them to build the shelf of our dreams.
So we headed off to Builders Warehouse, had the shelf drawn up by Bernard Abrahams in the kitchens department and the wood cut to size. Then we enlisted the help of two seriously talented tradesmen, Tsepo and Clement, who helped us make sense of the heaps chopped up wood and put it all together. Thank goodness they did, because without them it would have never have been built. I have no tools and absolutely no DIY experience! If you do have your own tools, then this is probably something that you could build yourself. However, if you’re like me and don’t trust yourself, I highly recommend the guys at Builders Warehouse.
The result is exactly what I had hoped for. The new divider separates the living area from the bedroom, whilst not cramping either space, or creating too much darkness. It also gives us a bit more storage space.
We added a few more plants to the space and I love the overall effect. Now all we need is a new rug and a new couch and I’ll be happy for a while. Until the next project I want to tackle…screeding!
