I remember coming to visit Cape Town as a teenager (I grew up in Joburg) and wanting nothing more than to watch the sunset over cocktails at the Radisson Bu Waterfront. There’s just nothing quite like it. There’s something about it that’s just so quintessentially Cape Town. The deck is right on the water and you can smell the sea and hear the gulls calling and the sun paints the sky with pink and orange brushstrokes as it ends the day.
Keenan and I were recently invited to spend the night at the hotel for a little staycation and it was stunning. We spent the afternoon drinking cocktails and watching seagulls and dolphins from the deck. I tried to taste every one on the menu, for science, but after three, I needed a nap. I can say that they do a particularly good G&T cocktail.
At sunset, we walked along the jetty and took some pictures before sitting down to a seafood buffet dinner. We decided to have an early night because the rooms are so nice. They’re decorated in a nautical theme, but it’s very subtle, so you kind of get the feeling that you’re sleeping on a cruise ship.
The next morning we had a couples massage before my favourite thing about staying at a hotel – a huge breakfast. It was such a nice little break and I think we’ll be spending a lot of time on that deck this summer.
