One&Only Le Saint Géran, Mauritius

I never knew how much I wanted to go to Mauritius until I went to Mauritius.

After years spent travelling to far-off countries and looking for heaven on distant continents, I found the perfect turquoise waters, swaying palm trees and clear blue skies that dreams are made of just five hours from my doorstep.

The One&Only Le Saint Géran is located on a private peninsula on Mauritius island. Complete with over four thousand palm trees, iconic blue waters, pure white sand beaches and thatched umbrellas. One of the dreamiest places I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, this beautiful beachfront property totally eclipsed every expectation I held for Mauritius.

I boarded my Air Mauritius flight in Cape Town and flew direct to the island. The flight is only about 5 hours, which is a godsend when you only have a few days to travel – it’s just not always practical to spend 24 hours flying to Bali if you only have 7 leave days. So I arrived with my travel companions just after 11pm and was greeted with an iced tropical juice and a cold towel. From this moment on, my stay was nothing short of perfection.

No matter how much I love travelling and adventuring to exotic places half way across the world, there is nothing quite like a relaxing stay at a luxury resort. A place where your room opens up onto lush lawns rolling down to the perfect beach, where breakfast is served overlooking the sea and lunchtime activities include snorkelling and water skiing. My parents own a boat so I’ve already been water skiing before but never snorkelling! Imagine spending the whole day going from beach to spa pool to ocean and back again. Breaking only for a massage or a seafood lunch. Imagine never having to ask for anything twice, because everyone who works at the resort knows that this is your special holiday and takes great care to make sure that you’re always comfortable and happy. Imagine being able to spend the whole holiday lying in the sun reading a book, with your hardest decision being which of the fantastic restaurants you’re going to for dinner.

What I loved about my stay at the One&Only Le Saint Géran

The Location

It’s absolutely beautiful. Everything I’ve always thought Mauritius would be, but better. Warm blue water, soft white sand, palm trees, hammocks, sparkling pool.

The Climate

Even in winter, the weather is fantastic. We had a little rain, but this part of the island doesn’t get the winter wind, which blows incessantly on some other parts. It felt like summer, even though it was June.

The People

I think it’s especially important when you’re travelling for a special occasion like a honeymoon, but great people always make a trip. The people of the O&O Le Saint Géran are so friendly and kind and always there to help. Whether that means helping you to carry your several plates of buffet breakfast to the table, or to refresh you with a cold towel on the beach, they are always there, smiling.

The Activities

Snorkelling and water skiing are among the daily activities included in your stay. That means that you can even fit some exercise into your relaxing without even having to think about it.

The Food

Between the seafood buffet at the Le Terrasse restaurant, the delicious Indian food at the Indian Pavilion and the steaks at Prime, you’ll never go hungry. Of course, I always like to order room service at least once, just to live it up a little.

The Spa

The spa pool is sheltered, private and sparkling blue. I spent a lot of time here just floating and swimming laps. I also had the privilege of having one of the best massages of my life, overlooking lush tropical plants and a tranquil pond. The spa offers signature Bastian Gonzales manicures and pedicures that will change your life.

The Special Touches

The O&O Le Saint Géran offers daily favours (bath salts, exotic sugars) in your room, the choice of firmness and scent of your pillow, the texture of your bed linen and even the option to have the magnificent teepee set up for a special occasion. If you’re planning a romantic proposal or a destination wedding, this one of the most incredible ways to do it.

This was one trip I will never get over.
