High Tea Luxury
Is indulging in High Tea the most luxurious way to spend an afternoon? Cause I’m pretty sure it is. It’s actually one of my favourite ways to spend an afternoon. Especially an afternoon with my mom and my nana.
The Saxon
The Saxon in Joburg is an oasis of calm of splendour in the middle of the bustling City of Gold. As you drive through the gates, huge lush gardens muffle the sound of traffic and you suddenly feel quite far away from it all. It’s a luxury hotel that feels intimate enough to be a boutique hotel. Decorated in what I like to call “tasteful African” decor, with a sparkling infinity pool and lots of grandness.
Afternoon Delights
We settled into the Piano Lounge for afternoon tea and were immediately greeted with the satisfying “pop” of a bottle of South African MCC. For the next couple of hours, we feasted on tiny sandwiches, delicate pastries and cup after cup of tea. One of the things I love about High Tea is the leisureliness of it all. It’s a time to sit back, tuck your ankles and relax.
Sweet Treats
And just when we thought we couldn’t possibly manage another bite of deliciousness, the sweets tray arrived at the table. Flaky scones, creamy eclairs, brightly coloured macaroons and hand painted chocolates, and of course, more tea. Obviously there is always room for desert. Especially when it comes to the table on a plate that reads “Happy 90th Birthday!”.
It was such a pleasure to have an afternoon of old-fashioned bite sized treats, as a late celebration of my nana’s 90th birthday. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a special occasion with the special ladies in my life. If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a birthday, bride-to-be or even just a girly afternoon, I really can highly recommend High Tea at The Saxon.
Book The Experience
High Tea at The Saxon is served from Monday to Saturday, in the morning from 9am to 11:30am and in the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. Weekday tea costs R405,00 per person and weekend tea costs R465,00 per person.
Booking is highly advisable, and the kitchen can cater to dietary requirements and restrictions and are happy to make a big deal of special occasions.

Nothing like a High Tea. I’m putting The Saxon’s Tea on my To Do List now that I’m a Jozi girl again. Thanx for sharing. x
