COVID-19 NOTICE: Right now, we are all taking life day-by-day. Travel plans have to be cancelled and loved ones have to be separated by closed borders and travel bans. We don’t know what the next 6 months will look like. To keep my days in social distancing ticking over, I want to keep doing what I’ve always done. Keep sharing nice things I’ve seen and nice places I’ve been, and keep your and my travel dreams alive. Because one day, when we’re ready to poke our heads out of our front doors again, when planes are back in the sky and the travel bans are lifted, we will see more of the world together.
Staying at Cape View Clifton in Cape Town
Cape Town is blessed with a long list of some of the most beautiful views in the world; the view from the top of Table Mountain, the view from Chapman’s Peak Drive and of course, the view from Cape View Clifton.
When you first arrive at Cape View Clifton, the entrance of the hotel is totally unassuming. But as soon as you step into the reception room, your eyes are blessed with blue hues as far as the eye can see. My mouth actually fell open the first time I walked in – it must be so funny for the reception team to see the reaction of first-time guests when they walk through the door!

What to expect
At sunrise, at sunset and every other minute of the day, this boutique property, which is perched on the foothills of Lion’s Head, offers breathtaking views over Clifton Beach and the Twelve Apostles from every single suite.
The boutique property has seven luxury suites, spread over 4 floors. Each room has an incredible view (including the gym on the top floor) with a private balcony. The rooms are huge, and the 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom suites have their own hot tubs and fully equipped kitchens, so they’re perfect if you’re travelling with friends or family.
The five-star property is decorated in a laid-back-luxury beach house aesthetic, with plush soft furnishings, whitewashed wood and a blue and white colour palette. And really, the whole property is build around the centrepiece; the ocean. I think if you just stayed in the pool the entire day, you would probably see hundreds of different blues as the ocean and sky changed colour from sunrise to sunset.
The team at Cape View runs the hotel more like a home, so you feel welcome and at ease as soon as you arrive. It’s like you’ve just arrived home to your long-lost beach house you never knew you had. The well-stocked bar is run on an honesty system, so as soon as you’ve dropped your bag and changed into your swimwear, you can grab a bottle of bubbles or rosé and enjoy the view from the pool deck.
Although the kitchen team is always ready to whip up a sensational lunch or dinner, the property is so perfectly positioned between Camps Bay and the city, you’re completely spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out. Actually, you’re just a 10-15 minute drive from just about every highlight in the city; Lion’s Head hiking trail, Table Mountain cableway, the V&A Waterfront and the city centre. Wait, did I mention that you’re basically on top of Clifton Beach?
Cape View Clifton is perfect if you’re looking for a luxury boutique hotel with a casual atmosphere, because let’s be honest, sometimes you just don’t feel like staying in a huge hotel – and well, I don’t think you’d find one with this kind of view anyway.
*My stay at the property was during the luxurious TBA Escapes “From the Beach to the Bush” Tour.
