Because I love what I do so much, it sometimes feels like I’m pretty much always working. I’m always taking pictures and Instagramming and Tweeting and writing blog posts and meeting people for work and having coffee dates for work and yes, even tasting wines for work. Sometimes I go away for work. Sometimes I even relax for work. But it’s still work.
Look I’m not complaining. I know that I am more than fortunate to be doing so many things that I feel so passionate about and that most people consider to be chilling. But sometimes I just want to take a proper break and hang out, you know? And that’s exactly what I did a couple of weekends ago, in Riebeek-Kasteel. I went away with friends and didn’t think about work or taking pictures or memorising details for a blog post.
But the funny thing is, I ended up doing those things anyway. Cause as I said, I love it.
Keenan and I booked a little cottage with our friends Ricki and Anje and headed out on Friday after work. Riebeek-Kasteel is just a quick drive from Cape Town and we arrived in time for Ricki to cook us a delicious pasta dinner. We sat up drinking bottles and bottles of wine and playing Cards Against Humanity until the stars were bright in the night sky. We laughed so much that our faces hurt. Of course, it sooner turned into a proper games night with a few rounds of poker, I was so glad that one of my hobbies back home was to go online and play poker dewapoker is the best site I’ve found, because it meant I won some spending money for the rest of the trip! Could it get any better?
Our cottage had a nice little swimming pool, so we spent Saturday swimming, eating, drinking wine, playing cards and braaiing. It was exactly what I needed. It was pretty much exactly what we all needed. And it felt nothing like work.
For those wondering, the cottage we booked is called The Tin House and it sleeps six. It’s fully equipped so all you have to take is your food.
