I love red wine and white wine with equal fervour. A good chardonnay, a nice Pinot Noir…I’ll have both thanks. But when it comes to winter, there’s just something special about a big bottle of red. Maybe I’ve romanticised it, but I have visions of swirling red wine in front of a roaring fire while the rain buckets down outside.
I just got back from a week in Stellenbosch and I’ll tell you, South Africans are spoilt for choice! Stellenbosch, Robertson, Hemel-en-Aarde…these are just a few of the regions producing phenomenal wines right – in our very own country! The image above was taken at one of my favourite places on Earth; The Wine Village in Hermanus, which has the biggest selection of South African wines in the Southern Hemisphere.
So I’ve asked my friend Bubbles, wine lover, expert and merchant, to recommend her favourite reds for winter 2014. She’s thrown in two full-bodied whites for good measure.
