#WalkMyCity: Woodstock Street Art

I always say there’s no better way to explore a city than by foot. Pounding the pavement gives you the opportunity to really feel the city – get in touch with the smells (not always that great tbh), the energy and especially the people. My neighbourhood of Woodstock is one of the brightest and most diverse in Cape Town and I’m always itching to show people around and introduce them to my amazing neighbours. I love a good excuse to take a walk and check out any new street art that’s popped up. I recently hosted the second #WalkMyCity Woodstock Street Art Walk with Hi-Tec and my friend, local street art tour guide, Zack.

The Street Art Capital of Cape Town

Woodstock is fast becoming well known as Cape Town’s street art hotspot. The neighbourhood is adorned with pieces by both local and international artists, ranging in subject from social commentary to animal rights activism. Some have been around for years, while new ones are being added all the time. That’s one of the things I love most about living here – you never know when a new piece is going to show up around the corner.

Woodstock Street Art Walking Tour

I always advise people who are interested in exploring Woodstock to book a tour with a local guide for the best experience. They have all the inside info about the programme that first started the collection of murals in Woodstock, as well as the artists behind them and what each piece means. I don’t encourage walking around on your own, so make sure you contact Zack or Juma to book your experience.

Hi-Tec: Built for the trail, performs in the city

I have absolutely loved partnering with Hi-Tec this year! I am not the most proficient hiker, but I really enjoy a good opportunity to get active and into the outdoors.
