There are so many beautiful hotels and resorts to choose from on the island of Mauritius that planning the perfect holiday can feel a little overwhelming. Which side of Mauritius should you stay on? And at which time of year? Is it best to book full board or half board? Should you stay at a boutique hotel or a luxurious resort? What about activities? It’s a lot to think about! Here’s everything you need to know about staying at the Zilwa Attitude Hotel in Mauritius.
From my experience, it’s helpful to start your planning process by listing at a few non-negotiables you want from your Mauritius holiday. For me, that means easy access to a white-sand beach, a well-stocked and breezy beach bar, a few cute and semi-private spots to relax, enough activities to keep me busy when I’ve had enough relaxing, and of course great food. If that sounds like the kind of Mauritius holiday you’re after, I’m pretty sure you’ll love the Zilwa Attitude Hotel.
Staying at the Zilwa Attitude
Located in Kalodyne on the North-Eastern side of the Mauritius, with direct access to crystal blue water, a view of the famous Coin de Mire island and a private “desert beach island” just off the beach, Zilwa Attitude is perfectly positioned for a dream Mauritius holiday.

The word “Zilwa” actually means “islander” in Creole, and the property has been designed using authentic designs and rustic-chic accents, creating an atmosphere of modern island life. Rooms are spacious, light, bright and minimalistic. Shared spaces are relaxed, using natural materials and open spaces to bring the beautiful outdoors into the indoors.
The resort is family-friendly, with a shallow pool for kids as well as three deeper pools for adult guests. My favourite pool at the resort welcomes you to the property as you arrive, and overlooks the beach all the way to Coin de Mire – an iconic landmark. I’m not a mom, so I prefer to enjoy adults-only spaces when I’m on holiday, and I found that there was more than enough room to do just that at the resort. On the beach, you’ll find thatch umbrellas, loungers and hammocks under the palm trees, overlooking the sparkling Indian Ocean. If you’re dreaming of soft white sand and that island blue water, you’ll find it right here.
With seven restaurants to choose from, guests have the opportunity to “dine out” somewhere different almost every night. Indian, European and Asian flavours are all on the menu, along with seafood and traditional Creole cuisine. I love having the option to bury my feet in the sand and enjoy a beach-bbq lunch or try local flavours over dinner – I can’t say I’m a huge fan of a buffet dinner every night, and here I could keep things interesting at every meal.

The only thing that could make my meal better, is a bottle of cold rosé or a colourful cocktail – and Attitude Hotels are more than generous when it comes to beverages. Staff go out of their way to remember your preference, bringing a bottle of wine to your table at lunch, or preparing an elaborate cocktail as you approach the bar for sunset, so that by the time you take a seat, your drink is already waiting.
From the Zilwa Attitude, you’re in the perfect position to board a boat out to some of Mauritius’ best diving spots. The 5-star Dodo Divers scuba diving centre is located right next to the hotel, offering divers of every level of the opportunity to explore below the waters around the island. In 2019, I got my PADI Open Water certification with the guidance of the world-class team at Dodo Divers. I spent 3 days doing my dive course in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon, then an extra 2 days diving with my expert instructor around the Coin De Mire island. It was an absolute dream come true and I cannot recommend this experience highly enough!
